Dear IMG Colleagues,
Match Week has ended.
For those who matched, congratulations. You earned it, and this community is proud of you. As you move forward, carry this community with you. The journey does not end at Match Day. Every physician who succeeds has a role in lifting those who come after them.
For those who did not match, please keep reading.
This year, approximately 9,600 IMGs matched. That represents only about a 2 percent increase from last year. For non-US IMGs, it was actually a decrease of approximately 2 percent.
This path is not getting easier. That is the reality. But it is not the only path.
You are a doctor.
You trained for this profession. You studied, sacrificed, and gave years of your life to medicine. That does not disappear because of one result.
Several states have already enacted alternate licensure pathways that allow qualified IMG physicians to practice medicine under supervision without completing a traditional U.S. residency. States like California and Ohio are expected to come online in the coming year. This is expanding right now.
And here is where you come in.
Think about the hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organizations in your community. Specifically, the ones that rely on nurse practitioners and physician assistants to fill workforce gaps. If an organization is already utilizing NPs or PAs, they have the foundation in place to adopt an alternate licensure pathway where one is available in their state. The supervision and oversight structure they already operate under is exactly what these pathways are built on. The model is not foreign to them. It just needs to be introduced.
If you know an organization like that, you have the ability to open a real door for IMGs.
A few weeks ago I attended the ACHE Congress in Houston. Physician shortages dominated every conversation. Technology, APPs, nurse practitioners, all proposed as solutions. IMGs were not mentioned once. Not because you are not the answer, but because most leaders have simply never heard of this pathway.
You can be the one who changes that in your community.
When you connect with us, we will walk you through the pathways in detail, how they work, which states are active, and what the implementation process looks like. We want you to fully understand the mission and vision before you carry it forward. Once you do, we will provide you with a personalized outreach letter to introduce this model to organizations in your area. You will not be going into that conversation alone. WeAreDocs works directly with organizations to educate them and help them build everything they need, the policies, the supervision structures, and the operational framework.
Several of our physicians have already done exactly this. They connected with us, learned the model, reached out to organizations in their communities, and made introductions that are now changing lives.
That started with one conversation.
To those who have already been placed through this pathway, thank you. You are living proof that this works. If this experience has meant something to you, share it. Tell a colleague. Post about it. Tag WeAreDocs on LinkedIn and let the community hear your story in your own words. Not as a testimonial. Not as a promotion. But as a physician who found a way forward and wants others to know that one exists. That kind of visibility changes lives in ways no platform or campaign ever could.
And to everyone in this community, follow us on LinkedIn. This is where the conversation is growing. Every post, every share, and every story told by a physician in this community moves this mission forward. The more visible this pathway becomes, the more IMGs it reaches, and the more organizations come to the table.
This mission will not succeed through one organization or one platform alone. It will succeed because physicians like you, in communities across this country, decide to act.
You are not a medical scribe. You are not a medical assistant. You are not a technician.
You are a doctor. And doctors build the future of medicine.
Fill out the form below to learn more, find out if you qualify, and take the first step toward carrying this mission forward:
We are building this together. And it starts with you.
Sincerely,
Sam Hsieh, MD FACS FACHE
