Dear IMG Colleagues,
I wanted to share some important updates as we continue building meaningful opportunities for IMG doctors.
At this time, the area that has been most consistently open to our IMG colleagues has been the post acute care space. This setting aligns well with our collective training and experience. The work is grounded in general medicine and primary care, with a broad scope that many of us have practiced across different healthcare systems. The acuity is generally lower, which allows for a more deliberate pace and thoughtful clinical decision making. For many IMGs, this has proven to be a strong and successful entry point.
We are also gaining traction in the outpatient primary care setting, including clinics and FQHCs. Progress continues steadily as organizations become more comfortable with alternate licensure models. Medicine is a conservative space and does not change quickly, but consistent education and responsible implementation are opening doors.
Next week, while attending the American College of Healthcare Executives Clinical Congress in Houston, we will be in discussions with several large healthcare organizations regarding Alternative Pathway licensure models and how they can responsibly increase access to care. These conversations are important steps toward broader adoption.
We are also excited to share that SB 5185 has now passed both the Senate and the House in Washington State, moving us toward a full license pathway under a pilot program. Candidates will need to apply before July 1st once implementation details are finalized. This represents a significant advancement in long term pathway development.
Additionally, California is enacting legislation to establish its own alternate pathway program, with the expectation that licenses may begin to be issued next year. Momentum is building nationally.
In my next email, I will share more about a physician position MATCH program we are developing with one of our partner employers, designed to increase IMG doctors’ chances of securing placements through a structured selection process. We are also in early development of a Telemedicine program, which may allow some candidates to practice without relocating. There are several exciting initiatives underway.
We have recently launched our LinkedIn company page, and I encourage you to follow us there for professional updates. We continue to maintain our Facebook community through We Are Docs as well, for those who prefer that platform.
