Key Takeaways

  • Conferences: WeAreDocs attended the National Rural Health Association conference in Kansas City and the Nevada Hospital Association Conference. The WSHA CEO Retreat (October) and the Nevada Critical Access Hospital Conference (November) are next.
  • North Carolina: through 3RNET, WeAreDocs is now engaging the state’s Office of Rural Health.
  • MultiCare (Washington): CEOs are interested, and board certification requirements within the medical staff structure are the main challenge.
  • December webinars: WeAreDocs will take part in an academic webinar series with 3RNET that reaches its national network of rural healthcare employers.
  • Washington State Department of Health: conversations are moving from education to planning employer workshops.
  • Portal updates: physicians can now message WeAreDocs directly in the portal, and a Resources tab organized by career stage is being built out.

Dear Colleagues,

We have been on the road. Kansas City. Nevada. Washington State. North Carolina. The trail has been long and the work has been relentless.

There is a lot to cover in this one so grab a coffee and settle in. Here is what has happened, what is in motion, and what is coming next.

The Conference Trail Is Moving Fast.

Kansas City is in the books. We attended the National Rural Health Association conference and walked away with meaningful connections, new hospital relationships, and more organizations that now know this pathway exists. Every handshake in that room was a seed planted in a community that needs physicians.

As we write this email on October 2nd, we are at the Nevada Hospital Association Conference. On the ground. Grinding. Introducing this model to hospital leaders across a state that is actively beginning to issue licenses and desperately needs physicians to fill the gaps that have been growing for years.

And we are not done. The WSHA CEO Retreat is coming later this October right here in Washington State. The Nevada Critical Access Hospital Conference follows in November. Each one is another room. Another table. Another conversation that moves this forward.

This is what sustained advocacy looks like. Not one big moment. A trail of them.

North Carolina and the National Picture.

Our work with 3RNET has opened a door in North Carolina, where we are now engaging with the Office of Rural Health, a key partner in connecting physicians to underserved communities across the state. This is a meaningful development that extends our reach into a new region with real and urgent physician shortages.

We are also in early conversations with national agencies about this pathway and the response has been genuinely encouraging. We are not ready to share specifics yet but the ears of organizations with national reach and influence are beginning to perk up. When that happens, the ripple effects can be significant. We will keep you posted as this develops.

MultiCare: Slow and Steady.

We had the opportunity to meet with the CEOs at MultiCare in Washington State and the conversation was exactly what we hoped for. They are intrigued. They are interested. They see the potential.

They also know there will be challenges, particularly around board certification requirements within their medical staff structure. We expected this. Large health systems move deliberately and the internal alignment required to adopt something this new is not simple.

But here is what matters. They are at the table. And we have committed to walking alongside them every step of the way, helping them work through their medical staff processes, their stakeholder conversations, and the implementation questions that no one has fully answered before.

This is how lasting change happens with major health systems. Not overnight. One conversation at a time.

December Webinars With 3RNET: We Are Stoked.

We are thrilled to share that we will be participating in an academic webinar series with 3RNET in December, reaching their entire national network of rural healthcare employers and organizations in one coordinated effort.

WeAreDocs will be among the first organizations of our kind to participate in these webinars. This is not a small thing. 3RNET’s network reaches exactly the hospitals and clinics that need this pathway the most. Getting in front of them through a trusted channel like 3RNET accelerates awareness in a way that would take us years to replicate through individual outreach alone.

December cannot come fast enough.

Washington State DOH: From Awareness to Action.

Our ongoing conversations with the Washington State Department of Health continue to progress. We are now moving beyond education and into planning, working together to develop workshops that will bring this pathway directly to employers and organizations across the state.

The fact that one of the most important governing bodies in our flagship state is now an active collaborator rather than an uninformed bystander is a significant shift. And it is a model we intend to replicate in every state where a pathway exists.

A Special Note for Our Washington State Candidates.

If you are going through the MDCE pathway in Washington State, there is someone we want you to know about and an opportunity we do not want you to miss.

Senator Rebecca Saldaña is a Washington State Senator who was one of the early champions of the legislation that created the alternate licensure pathway in Washington State. She and Dr. Mohamed Khalif were among the driving forces behind making this pathway a reality. Without her advocacy, the pathway many of you are walking through today would not exist.

Dr. Khalif is hosting a virtual event to meet and support Senator Saldaña in her campaign for King County Council, District 2 on Saturday October 10th from 11am to 12pm.

This is not just a political event. This is an opportunity to meet one of the people who fought for your right to practice medicine in this country. To introduce yourself. To share your story. To say thank you to someone who believed in you before you even knew her name. And to support someone who has already proven she will go to bat for ITPs when it matters most.

We hope to see as many of you there as possible.

While We Cover the Top, You Cover the Ground.

Here is something we want you to sit with for a moment.

Every conference we attend, every CEO we sit across from, every legislator we support, every webinar we deliver, we walk into those rooms carrying the credibility of this community. The physicians who have already been placed. The stories of patients being cared for. The proof that this works.

But we cannot be everywhere. And the most powerful conversations about this pathway are not happening in conference rooms in Kansas City or Nevada. They are happening in break rooms, in clinic hallways, in text messages between colleagues who trust each other.

That is where you come in.

While we are covering the national and state level, we need you covering the local level. If you know a clinic administrator, a hospital medical director, a healthcare executive in your community, tell them about this pathway. You do not need to have all the answers. Just say the name WeAreDocs and tell them there is a better way to solve their physician shortage. We will take it from there.

Every conversation you have is one we cannot have without you. This is a coordinated effort. And together there is nowhere left for this problem to hide.

Your Portal Is Waiting. And It Is Getting Better.

A quick but important reminder about your platform portal.

If you have not yet accepted your invitation or created your profile at https://wearedocs.com/join-our-network/ please do that today. And if you have already started, go back in and make sure your profile is as complete as possible.

Here is why this matters more than ever. State regulations are updating regularly as new pathways come online and existing ones evolve. The more complete your profile is, the more accurately we can match you to opportunities and alert you when a new state opens that fits your background. Your portal shows you in real time which states you currently qualify for and tracks your progress as your application moves forward so you are never left wondering where things stand.

We have also added the ability to message us directly through the portal. No more wondering if your email got lost or waiting for a response through a general inbox. You can now reach us directly from your own dashboard and we will respond to you there.

We have also been building out a Resources tab on the portal that we are excited about. This is not a one size fits all library. Resources are organized by stage so whether you are just starting out, actively in the licensing process, or already placed and navigating your first clinical role, you will find guidance that is relevant to exactly where you are right now. Inside you will find tips on how to apply, guidance on how to engage with potential employers, advice on how to present yourself to healthcare organizations, and practical tools for every stage of the pathway.

This resource library is living and growing. It will continue to expand as we learn more from physicians already in the system and as the pathway itself evolves. Explore it. Use it. And tell us what else you would find helpful. Your feedback shapes what we build next.

There is still a great deal of work ahead. More states to activate. More organizations to educate. More physicians to place. More patients to reach.

But look at where we started and look at where we are now. Kansas City. Nevada. North Carolina. MultiCare. National agencies. December webinars. A senator who helped build this pathway. A community of physicians who refuse to give up.

We are not stopping. And neither should you.

Thank you for your belief in this mission. Thank you for your patience as we build it. And thank you for being the reason every room we walk into is worth walking into.

You are a physician. Internationally trained. Undeniably capable. And this community is behind you every step of the way.
